ABOUT US

Creating beautiful, affordable and sustainable landscapes to promote community, provide environmental education, and overall enrich the lives of our clients.

Welcome to K² Landscapes

K² Landscapes is a landscape design-build firm specializing in native, sustainable designs that help to create a story through landscape.

Mission

K² Landscapes is committed to creating beautiful, affordable and sustainable landscapes to promote community, provide environmental education, and overall enrich the lives of our clients.

Principles

Natural Environment:

Our designs enhance the natural environment by restoring damaged systems, by using native plant materials, and by low impact construction solutions.

Community:

Our designs bring together both neighborhood aesthetic and culture while creating opportunities in the landscapes that allow people to come together.

Education:

Our designs provide opportunities for our clients to learn about natural systems, native plantings and their environmental footprint. We will also educate ourselves with each project we take on, learning how to improve our methods of construction and the most efficient plant material for the site we are designing.

Kristopher Kimkleinschmidt

Owner, RLA, LEED AP, Certified Permaculture Designer, NDS Certified, Pollinator Steward Certified, MId-America GSI Certified

Kristopher grew up in several places during his childhood. He lived in Louisiana, Texas, Tennessee, Connecticut, Wisconsin, and Florida. He spent his childhood traveling with his family across the United States visiting national parks and lighthouses. This is where he discovered a passion for nature. Kristopher went to Kansas State University and received his Master’s degree in Landscape Architecture and a secondary degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Sciences. At Kansas State, he focused his studies on natural systems, landscape design, and stormwater management. Kristopher was also a part of the Kansas State University Marching Band where he played trumpet.

He began his career working at nurseries in Florida and Kansas serving as a landscape and irrigation designer, on-site installer and nurseryman. Kristopher is an accredited LEED professional, certified permaculture designer and licensed Landscape Architect. He continues to improve his knowledge of plants and is very interested in interweaving landscape ecology/permaculture principles into every design.

Now Kristopher is ready to start the next chapter in his life with his wife, Paula. The two of them have a furry family of two: Klondike and Picasso who enjoy helping Kristopher with the landscaping.

Ben Ingle

Professional Landscaper, NDS Certified, Pollinator Steward Certified, MId-America GSI Certified

Ben has spent most of his life living in northern Nevada. He and his wife recently moved to the KC Metro to be closer to family. Since childhood, he has loved experiencing and exploring nature. He is a strong proponent of native environments, and an even stronger proponent of wildernesses. Ben loves learning, especially about plants and other aspects of nature. He feels most at home in the middle of a forest.

Ben double majored in college, earning a Bachelor’s degree in both Forest Ecology and Management and Environment Science with an emphasis in ecological restoration and conservation, along with minoring in Rangeland Ecology and Management. He also has experience with cattle ranching, residential construction, and barbeque consumption.

Julian Sanchez

Professional Landscaper, NALP Landscape Technician Certified, NDS Certified, NDS Certified, Mid-America GSI Certified

Julian grew up in Shawnee and graduated from Shawnee Mission Northwest HS. He enjoys spending time outside, working on cars, and fishing. He also likes live jazz and dancing cumbia, which he has done since he was a baby.

Frankie McConnell

NALP Maintenance Technician Certified, NDS Certified

Frankie grew up in Raytown, Missouri and has nurtured a passion for the outdoors for as long as they can remember. They even designed and built a treehouse from the ground up at the age of ten in order to spend more time outside having adventures. Somewhere along the way they tripped into cheerleading and traded leaves and dirt for glitter and rhinestones for several years until reigniting a love of houseplants from their grandmother. She taught Frankie about the importance of gardening and respecting nature from a young age. Since joining Ksquared, Frankie has started learning many different skills and hopes to continue building on them as they grow with the company. When not playing in the dirt, Frankie can be found pursuing “grandma hobbies” like crocheting, baking, reading, or snuggling with their fur baby Fiona while being way too invested in Kpop.

Adrienne Rioux

Professional Landscaper, NDS Certified

Adrienne is no stranger to spending hours in nature: Born and raised in rural Northeast Kansas, she spent much of her time growing up hiking through woodland, running through cornfields, and wrestling brambles. She’s visited a variety of climates both in the USA and abroad in Europe and South America, but shared that she’s always loved the change of seasons in the Midwest in particular. Adrienne graduated college in 2019, and after some years of crafting coffee, wine, experiences, and quality corporate work, has chosen to re-engage with the seasons she loves in a more hands-on capacity by crafting in that medium as well, with Ksquared! She hopes to facilitate community growth and push to the limit of her skills, and looks forward to a day when she can design landscapes of her own for community use in local fairs and celebrations.

A visual artist and caffeine-enthusiast among other things, off the clock Adrienne can often be found with some form of coffee in hand, elbow-deep in conversation instead of soil or wrapped up in something “cozily creative”!
